Welcome to Dressage Wairarapa, incorporating Wairarapa Dressage Group and Solway Dressage Inc.

This website explains how our two dressage groups work together to support dressage within the Wairarapa, and provides information about upcoming events, results and news updates.

Upcoming events – 2012

  • Solway Dressage Autumn Ribbon Day Series - 15 April, 20 May, 17 June – this series offers non-graded classes. The schedule is published on the Events Page.
  • Entries have closed for the 20 May show. Late entry queries should be directed to Wendy Jeffery on wendy.jeffery@farmside.co.nz or 027 279 7799
  • The draw and yard list is posted on the Events Page.
  • The yard list will also be available on the day by the measuring stand and in the office. Please use allocated yards. ID tags to be worn by horses using yards.
  • Note arena changes for 0.4 and 2.4.  0.4 is now in Arena 1 and 2.4 is now in Arena 2. Times remain the same. Arena 1 is a 40m x 20m arena (for 0.2 and 0.4), all others are 60m x 20m
  • For those worried about the weather – Sunday is a bit cloudy with light SW winds.
  • To thank riders for their support of our shows, we will do a  Lucky Back Number Draw for a $30 saddlery voucher at lunchtime!
  • Solway Showgrounds does not permit dogs on the grounds. Please respect this rule at risk of elimination.
  • Results and championship pointsfrom the 15 April show are posted on the Events Page.
  • Championship points are awarded to the first 10 placegetters in each class from Training to Level 6 (musical freestyles not included) . Combinations must compete at all three shows to be eligible for the championship prizes. Champions and Reserve Champions will be awarded for each level.Champion and Reserve Champion will also be awarded to under 12′s competing in the Training level.
  • Young riders are encouraged to participate in this series – please note on the entry form if riders are under 12 years of age and we will judge these riders separately if enough entries.
  • Solway Dressage AGM - The Solway Dressage AGM was held on 13 May. We welcome two new members to our committee this year, Toni Swatridge and Debra Cartmell. The commitee page will be updated shortly.
  • Solway Dressage Rally 10 June- The Rally is from 10am – 3pm. Members ($3 per horse) and non-members ($5 per horse) welcome. Riders will have the opportunity to practice their tests and get feedback to prepare for the Ribbon Day on 17 June (pre-booking is essential). David Fisher will also run a warm up clinic from 10am – 10.45am and the opportunity to work on your musical freestyle from 11am – 1pm. Please let Wendy know by 5  June if you’d like to book a time for test practice or in the warm up clinic on wendy.jeffery@farmside.co.nz.
  • Rally dates for 2012 are on the Events Page
  • Wairarapa Dressage AGM 16 June - the Wairarapa Dressage AGM is at 1.00pm Saturday 16 June in the Pony Club Shed at Solway Showgrounds. All welcome to attend.
  • Andrea Raves Lessons and Lecture 22 and 23 June- Wairarapa Dressage and Solway Dressage are bringing Andrea Raves to the Wairarapa to give lessons, as well as give a lecture on the evening of 22 June. The Groups will subsidise lessons for financial Solway members (as at 31 May 2012) and Wairarapa riders registered for dressage with ESNZ. Costs will be $50 (30 minutes) and $75 (45 minute). Unubsidised lessons are $65 (30 minutes) and $90 (45 minutes). Andrea will also run a lecture at Carterton School Staffroom from 7.00pm, with a pot luck dinner from 6.15pm. Please contact Trish Furness for bookings which are filling fast! aw.pafurness@xtra.co.nz  All levels of horses and riders are encouraged to participate.   • Wairarapa Dressage Spring Tournament - December – dates to be confirmed. This series will offer graded and non-graded classes. Schedule and date to be confirmed shortly.
  • Solway Dressage Spring Ribbon Day – 25 November – this show will offer non-graded classes. Schedule to be confirmed.

  • ESNZ rules – Wairarapa Dressage competitions are run under ESNZ rules. It is the responsibility of all riders competing at these competitions to be cognisant of what the rules are and to abide by them.  Both the General and Veterinary Regulations and Policies and Rules of Dressage New Zealand can be found on the ESNZ website http://www.nzequestrian.org.nz/Article.aspx?ID=1786
  •  Writers – if you would like to write for a judge at any of our shows please contact Marilyn Watkins on marilynw@tranzit.co.nz  If you haven’t written before we will run through with you before the show what you need to do.

  • Solway Dressage Newsletter - the latest newsletter is posted on the Newsletters Page/Solway Dressage
  • Solway Dressage Membership - membership is now due for 2012/13. Annual subscription is $25 for adult riding members, $10 for riding members aged under 12 years, and $5 for non-riding members. Membership forms are on our Forms Page. Membership entitles you to reduced levies at our rallies and competitions.

  • Back On Track Dressage Bonanza – this series designed to encourage new and less experienced riders to participate at regional & island championships against riders of similar experience. Refer to Regional Event schedules for qualifiers or refer Back On Track Details.
